Our History
Early Beginnings...
Kelly Hirsch, founder of Kel's Custom Cabinets, developed his passion for woodworking at 13 years of age when he received a sabre saw and a jigsaw as Christmas presents. Along with a few other hand tools, Kelly would build shelves and knick knacks for his church fundraisers. This led to selling his works at craft sales in nearby towns. Master Craftsman... Kelly gained valuable experience in the home building industry while working in his father's business, Al Hirsch & Sons Construction. Kelly was able to do this during the summers and weekends while attending Hennepin Technical College, where he earned his degree in Cabinetmaking. Kelly worked in a few other cabinet shops, gaining more skills and experience before starting his business. |
Through the years...
In 1983, Kelly started his cabinet shop with the name of Kel's Kustom Krafts. This shop occupied about 1000 square feet of his parent’s pole shed near Delano, MN. Then in 1987, the business moved to a rented space of about 3500 square feet in Watertown, MN. In 1990, the business purchased its current facility with 7500 square feet. We then changed our name to Kel's Kustom Kabinets to clearly represent the type of work we do. Each business move into larger space allowed for additional equipment and better production efficiency. In 2002, more state of the art equipment including a CNC computerized router was added to further enhance accuracy, expand capabilities and compliment our "Old World Craftsmanship" values. A trusted name... In 2012, the business name was changed to Kel's Custom Cabinets to uphold the professional image we have maintained all along. |
